Dear Yarn Stash, please don't hate me.

Dear Yarn Stash, Please don’t hate me. I promise I haven’t been intentionally neglecting you for the yarn I met while on holiday in Melbourne . I’m sure you can agree that new relationships come with a little bit of new relationship euphoria, but that doesn't mean you still don’t have a special place in my heart. I think the fact that I have not supplanted any of you guys from the Shelf of Showing Off, is testament that the new yarns have not replaced you in my eyes. Yes everything I have cast on since returning from my holiday has been from the yarn I brought home, but I have not frogged a single pre-existing project to poach needles or cables. These new projects are merely experiments with new techniques, that I’m perfecting before I try them on your beautiful skeins. The lattice work sock that I just completed? It means nothing! Like I explained when I got home, I cast-on that project while away because I needed something to work on during the Stitch Nights in Melbourne....

Friday Fibre Watch - Stranger Strings S2E1 pt1

It’s Friday! You know what that means Cosplayers and Geek-chic knitters! Time for another installment of Friday Fibre Watch! !SPOILER ALERT! For those of you joining for the first time these little recaps do contain spoilers. If you like to do things in order, you can check out Season 1 Friday Fibre Watch posts here . We wrapped up Season 1 of Stranger Things last time, so we are on to Season 2 today. So, so, SO, many great fibre finds in this episode, guys. I can’t even! In fact, I couldn’t even to the point that I’ve had to split this post up into more than one part... Got your eggos and bevvie of choice ready? It’s been three-hundred-and-fifty-two days since El disappeared and Will was rescued from the Upside Down. In the near year since the big showdown with Papa, Hawkins Lab cronies, and the big bad Demogorgon Joyce has gained a boyfriend (not the one we all thought), Chief Hopper has gained a daughter (not that either of them realise it yet); Dustin is sporting ...

Rings, Strings, and Fine things!

She’s back! I made it back from Melbourne last night and though I’m happy to be home I definitely had a great time. Thursday was mostly driving, with some fibre thrown in. I stopped in a little village called Euroa (very small little place, entire downtown is about a block and a half long) for a coffee and found this darling little cafe/bulk shop combo called Fair Enough . The coffee was tasty and I had their fresh muesli with yogurt (that’s Aussie for muesli, if it’s granola they call it baked muesli). It was cold and cloudy and every shop on that street had a sign out saying ‘Bring Your Own Container!’ or “Packaging Free’. It was like being back in Seattle. It made my goth-hippy heart sing.    I also managed a little dino knitting while I was there and sniff some frosted lavender. It was as delicious as it sounds.          After breakfast I stopped in at First Edition Fibres and Yarns . They produce a large portion of t...

I Hacked a Dinosaur!

Hello darlings! I’m sorry, with all the road trip bragging talk yesterday I forgot to ask - how was your weekend? Did you get up to any fibrey mischief? I confess I get a bit giddy when travel is involved. The past three years have been very dry on travel and exploring. (For someone who has spent every summer holiday and spring break and even a few university semesters traveling the world, going for more than a few months without an adventure trip is a big change.) My weekend included dinosaurs. I’m not complaining. ;o) I finished a pair of dinosaur gloves for a very special nephew. (Not my nephew, but he’s clearly very special if his Auntie thinks he needs a pair of these delightful things.) I’m damn chuffed about how these babies turned out. The pattern is Triceratops Dinosaur Gloves by Chelsea Nicole Spangler and the pattern is made for ‘women’s glove size 6-7’. I don’t know what that actually means, since I’ve never made gloves before in my life. Yes I do wear gloves some...

If I've forgotten it, I'll deal, the road calls, my lovelies

The road calls, my lovelies. I can practically smell the asphalt, that’s how strong the pull is. I have packed the car (including an entire box of yarn and related paraphernalia), loaded up my phone with audiobooks and podcasts, mapped out every yarn shop and opshop between here and my destination, put petrol in the car, and now I’m bragging updating you lot. I’ve also got two fully charged camera batteries and Liebling’s DSLR. Anything I’ve forgotten at this point I will just buy along the way. (I don’t typically advocate for this sort of approach, but I trust that whatever I’ve forgotten is going to be either non-essential or something so essential that having one more of it isn’t going to be excessive.) Tonight I officially am on a personal holiday. No kiddos, no partners, no real job obligations until next Monday. I am going to cafe/yarn shop/bookstore/opshop/woolen mill hop from here to my destination and back. From now until next Monday, if it isn’t yarn/coffee/book/hobb...

Friday Fibre Watch - Stranger Strings S1E6-8, the horrid jumper

It’s Friday! That means we’re kicking the weekend off right with a little geek out over about all fibery-tastic things I saw in the fandom flavoured yarniverse this week. W00t! This week we will be wrapping up Season 1 of Stranger Things. There were some notable patterns in the last few episodes that I noted during rewatching, but couldn’t find any shots that included the pieces. I’ve had to omit them for now, but, as most of them will reappear in Season 2, I’m hoping that I can grab some stills of them and include them later. If anyone has suggested software for grabbing photo stills from a video, please share in the comments! It helps me and you’ll benefit, too! ;o) Got your eggos and bevvie of choice ready? Let’s get going! S1E6 - Nancy’s basic raglan  How many knitted garments has Nancy gone through this season? At least four, that’s more than any other character, and each of the items is drastically different from the others. Sure, she also seems to go through...

Blood Moons & Stat Modifiers

Hello darlings, how was your weekend? Ours was...different...We seemed to have crossed into some alterknit reality a couple of times throughout the weekend. Did anyone else find that suddenly weird things were happening around them, too? Maybe some nearby bovine refuge had an excess of heads emerge? More black kitties than usual cross in front of you? How about the just-bought milk in your fridge going sour? Saturday wasn’t too strange. Well, if you ignore the snarky tween who decided that hours before her sleepover was when she was going to refuse to clean her room or set up the lounge to her particular taste for her guest. She still wanted things to be ‘nice’ for her friend, of course. She just didn't want to be the one to do it. Oh, except for insisting that the wool be hidden. She was willing to chuck as much of it as possible onto my bed before sulking behind a book. When she was in primary school the spinning wheel and the fact that I was always knitting something ...

Friday Fibre Watch - Stranger Strings S1E5 Galaga & Dainty gloves

Hey there my fellow cosplayers and geek chic lovers - it’s Friday Fibre Watch!  Thank you for everyone’s patience during school holidays. I missed doing Friday Fibre Watch, but it just wasn’t possible this time around. My new cunning plan, since the first one seems to be working out so well, is to get these babies written ahead of time when school holidays is on, so no one has to miss out on the fun!  Episode 5 sees lots of new yarny goodies for us to enjoy while we ponder if Will will make it out of the Upsidedown alive and if Nancy will stick with Steve or go for the brooding Jonathan. Personally, I’d go for Jonathan, even after seeing Season Two (spoilers, Y’all!), but that’s just me. I love Steve, even when I hated him, but Jonathan listens to The Clash and Joy Division. How can you NOT want to spend your monster hunting, hero’s journey moments with him?  I realise I just admitted there was a heap of yarny goodies to choose from in this episode, but I picked onl...
