The MAL, and the Not MAL

Hello my lovelies! How is your prep for welcoming the Great Pumpkin coming along? (For those who are less interested in the Make-Along talk, feel free to jump below the cute little Reaper divider bar for the other fibre related blather.) Thank you to everyone who was able to join in during the Stitch & Flick sessions the last two weekends! In particular, last weekend’s Casper chatter was a delight. We gushed about how amazing Kat is as a character, reminisced about how we all wanted to be in that slow dance with Kat and Casper, and delighted over Dr Harvey’s Dad-skills; particularly in improvised fencing equipment. I’ve also made a discovery from watching these flicks - Aran sweaters in horror/scary movies are basically Red Shirts. Yup, that’s right, as in the trope of 'if the character is in a red shirt they ain't coming back from the away mission.' It’s really starting to seem that, at least in the 90’s (that’s my data set for now) dudes wearing some form of Ara...

I Hacked a Dinosaur!

Hello darlings! I’m sorry, with all the road trip bragging talk yesterday I forgot to ask - how was your weekend? Did you get up to any fibrey mischief? I confess I get a bit giddy when travel is involved. The past three years have been very dry on travel and exploring. (For someone who has spent every summer holiday and spring break and even a few university semesters traveling the world, going for more than a few months without an adventure trip is a big change.) My weekend included dinosaurs. I’m not complaining. ;o) I finished a pair of dinosaur gloves for a very special nephew. (Not my nephew, but he’s clearly very special if his Auntie thinks he needs a pair of these delightful things.) I’m damn chuffed about how these babies turned out. The pattern is Triceratops Dinosaur Gloves by Chelsea Nicole Spangler and the pattern is made for ‘women’s glove size 6-7’. I don’t know what that actually means, since I’ve never made gloves before in my life. Yes I do wear gloves some...

Yarn Chicken & Firewhiskey

I'm back! No, the tweens didn't gobble me up, though they managed to do just that to pretty much everything else in the house. (Go them!) The first ever Harry Potter Marathon at The Lookout was a success! Youngling was an excellent first time hostess (I didn't hear a single tween drama fest or fight breakout during the entire 10 hour event) and I set a new record for myself at how stealthily I could swap out savoury snacks every time a child tried to walk out of my kitchen carrying nothing but lollies and sweets. Oh there was  Butterbeer  and Firewhiskey (my own recipe) and a proper array of sugary confections that would make even Fred and George proud, but I did try to not send all the children back home at 8pm with nothing but sugar water for internal fluids.  To recuperate from Tuesday I spent yesterday at my LYS. My reward for missing out on Knit Night in favour of supervising five tweens with more sugar in them than sense? I ended up being in the right place ...

Bobbins and Pumpkin Juice

Phew, I am exhausted. How about you? Why am I exhausted you say? no it is not because Tour de Fleece kicked off this weekend and I have been spinning myself crooked. Rather, today was the first official day of school holidays. It was the first official day of school holidays AND my tween has a Harry Potter movie marathon on tomorrow. Don't get me wrong. I love stuff like this. It's heaps of fun to do themed parties and watch the kids bounce around impersonating their favourite characters. The prep work, however, can be murder. As an example, today we have been shopping for final missing ingredients (including cinnamon candies, which apparently is NOT a thing in Australia, and sprinkles made with plant-based food colouring), tidied the lounge, done the dishes probably a million times, and baked an array of goodies that would make the lunch trolley on the Hogwarts express envious. Oh, and we did laundry. So I am now sitting here, in the dark, letting the last bits of t...

Throwback Thursday: The 'Trump was just inaugurated wtf do I do now' shawl

Hello lovelies, It took me a while to decide what I wanted to write about today. My morning started off with yet another suckerpunch to the gut by the Trump Regime. Anyone else think they are playing the 'hold my beer!' game with the rest of the worst of the worst world leaders? Anyhow, I was feeling particularly unimpressed after reading the news, plus I burnt my coffee (yeah I know, first world problems that one) and then had a grumble with Liebling. (Nothing intense, it's been a long week and we are both a bit overworked with everything. We basically grumbled at each other about all the things that were pissing us off, but then both ended up a wee bit sore that we were each causing the other a bit of grief. We're still on speaking terms, lol.) However, this did mean that I started off my day in a rather persistent funk. I inwardly grumbled my way through the first part of my day, doing my chores and my real job. But then I got to have a crafternoon catch up wit...

Which universe did I wake up in?

Hey everyone. Sorry for not posting yet this week. I have been battling a sinus thing since the winds came up at the end of last week, and it finally got the better of me. On the bright side, I've have a fair bit of time to knit since I'm not allowed to do anything else, lest I contaminate my family members with the toxic sludge. I can't share everything that I've completed since last Friday because my mother does in fact read this blog (at this point she's also the only one brave enough to openly follow the blog, thanks Mama!), and some of the things I worked on (and finished!) are for her. I have a hard enough time keeping secrets I'm excited about I don't need the blog outing my cunning plans. However I can share these things: There are at least two other things that I finished that I can't show you just yet. I promise they will be revealed in good time though! You'll just have to keep coming back. ;o) Also, I made progress on Laurie...
